THE CODY SAFETY CHAIN SYSTEM

Users of Gooseneck Trailers are aware of the presence of "safety chain laws" that are on the books of most states in the USA as well as neighboring countries.  These laws appear to vary somewhat from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, however the choices that you, as a user of this type of hitch might have, generally fall into two types.

1. A type of mechanism that attaches to the Gooseneck Ball - and usually can be removed, especially if the ball is reversible.

2. U bolts which attach to the center section of the hitch itself, usually requiring additional hole drilling in the bed bottom of the vehicle during the installation process.

The above options are still available, if specified OTHERWISE.

Most Cody Gooseneck Hitches are now being shipped with the unique Cody Safety Chain System which consists simply of 2 (two) hook like devices made of heat treated (hardened) steel, as illustrated in the photo below.

These safety chain hooks come in pairs.  There is a right and a left.  They are heat treated for additional strength.  One of the hooks is 2" longer than the other.  This is necessary because the holes at the base of the ball which they are inserted, are positioned diagonally.  Additional sets of hooks are available if the user has more than one trailer, and would like to install a set on all of his trailers.  This safety chain system requires no additional drilling of holes in the bed bottom of your truck, yet utilizes the strength of the center beam of the hitch.
